For vans, plant, machinery or equipment: see how a deposit and final balloon change the payment and total cash commitment. This is a financed-purchase illustration, not a lease quotation.

How this calculator works
Amount financed = asset price less deposit. The present value of the final balloon is removed when calculating equal monthly payments at annual interest rate ÷ 12. The balloon is due in addition to the last monthly instalment.
Total interest = all monthly payments plus the balloon less the amount financed. Finance cost adds the upfront fee. Total cash paid also includes deposit and your entered VAT budget, without assuming any tax recovery.
The no-balloon comparison keeps the same asset, deposit, rate and term. A balloon lowers monthly payments because more principal remains outstanding; it can increase interest and creates a final cash or refinancing requirement.
A worked example
An £80,000 asset with £16,000 deposit leaves £64,000 financed. At 0% over 60 months with a £16,000 balloon, the monthly payment is £800, followed by the balloon alongside the final instalment. Upfront fees and VAT still require cash.
What the result cannot tell you
Finance leases, operating leases and contract hire have different ownership, initial rental, residual value and VAT treatment. This calculator does not price them. Maintenance, insurance, excess mileage, option-to-purchase charges, disposal proceeds and tax relief are excluded unless entered as an upfront fee. Check whether quotes use flat or reducing-balance rates before comparing.
Results are rounded for display; calculations use unrounded figures. A lender’s payment calendar, daily interest and rounding can produce different figures.
