How our information works · Trust before traffic

Useful finance information should show its boundaries as clearly as its answers.

The Finance Place combines general information, planning tools, user-built Money Plans and an introduction service. This page explains how we try to keep those layers accurate, understandable and separate from personalised regulated advice.

Our approach

Prepare the decision without pretending to make it for you.

Guidance pages explain common financial concepts, questions and preparation steps. Calculators model the figures a visitor enters. Planning journeys help organise goals, documents and next actions. None of those layers is presented as a lender decision, an eligibility guarantee or a personalised regulated recommendation.

What we aim for

  • Plain-English explanations before product language
  • Assumptions shown beside calculations
  • Useful next steps instead of invented financial scores
  • Professional help available when the decision needs it

Information standards

How we check the important parts.

01 · Sources

Primary and official information first

Where a rule or public scheme matters, we prioritise the relevant official authority or primary source. Depending on the subject, that can include government and tax authorities, the FCA, MoneyHelper, the British Business Bank and primary provider information.

02 · Calculations

Known examples are checked in the build

Core finance calculators use repeatable calculation logic rather than hand-entered answer tables. Automated regression checks cover important mortgage and property-tax examples so accidental code changes are more likely to be caught before deployment.

03 · Rules

Time-sensitive rules have review controls

Where a calculator depends on rules such as UK property purchase tax, The Finance Place records a review window and the production build can flag a review that has become stale. A material fiscal or regulatory change can require an earlier recheck.

04 · Market references

A reference rate is not a personal offer

Where the site displays a current market reference, it is labelled as an example or market reference rather than a rate the visitor is personally eligible for. Actual pricing and criteria depend on the provider and individual circumstances.

05 · Corrections

Clear facts beat false certainty

If information is uncertain, provider-specific or genuinely dependent on personal circumstances, the page should say so. We prefer a bounded answer and the right next step over publishing a confident rule that does not apply universally.

06 · No invented expertise

We do not use fake review badges

The site does not claim that a page was reviewed by a named adviser, accountant, lawyer or other professional unless that review has actually happened and can be described accurately.

Professional introductions

The introduction service is separate from the self-serve answer.

Visitors can use guidance, calculators and local Money Plan features without submitting an enquiry. If someone asks The Finance Place to find a professional, we review the requirement and may arrange an introduction to a relevant current partner or professional where one is available.

Where a referral arrangement applies, The Finance Place may receive a fee from the professional or firm after an introduction. The professional remains responsible for explaining their own status, services, fees, terms and any regulated advice or recommendation.

Personal data and planning

Planning, account sync and professional sharing are separate choices.

A visitor can keep planning information in their browser without an account. Optional account sync can create a private cloud copy. Signing in does not itself send a Money Plan to a professional, and a professional handoff is only added to an enquiry when the visitor chooses to include it.
